School Board

  • Elected twice as Public School Trustee – North York Board of Education (1994-1997) and Toronto District School Board (1997-2000).
  • Instrumental in the reopening of Elkhorn P.S. in 1996 to alleviate overcrowding at Bayview Elementary and Middle School.
  • Promoted the building of the New Earl Haig S.S. and seconded the motion to build the new School at the Board meeting.
  • Served on several Board Committees: Pension Committee for Non-Teaching Staff, School Board Strategy Team for Union Negotiations, Special Education Committee, Communications Committee, Committee to Select Executive Officers, etc.
  • Chaired Committee on Capital Assets Management and School Operations.
  • Held regular Ward meetings for parents and administrators.

Business

  • Worked for over 35 years with two large international companies (Kodak and Pitney Bowes) and one smaller Canadian company (Pacific Safety Products).
  • Held senior management roles in all three organizations which included significant budget responsibilities up to $30,000,000.
  • Significant experience in Engineering, Facilities Planning, Logistics (Supply Chain Management), Manufacturing and Human Resources.
  • Served nine years as Director of Education & Development for Kodak Canada Inc.
  • Committed to the elimination of “Waste” in all forms – a Lean systems thinker.
  • Directed Corporate Quality Management program.
  • Graduated from Six Sigma Management Black Belt program.

Significant Accomplishments

  • Formulated the “ABC” (Attributes, Behaviours and Competencies) model for people development.  
  • Initiated summer intern program with the University of Western Ontario’s Business School to attract high profile candidates to the company.
  • Initiated workplace partnerships with two local School Boards.
  • Transformed style of Education and Development Department from “Training for activity” to “Learning for impact”.
  • Wrote and presented paper “Learning a Living” at O.I.S.E. Education and Work Conference 1993.
  • Became company resource for Self Directed Work Teams and Employee Involvement.
  • Created an opportunity for 50 employees to obtain their Secondary School diplomas during their workday.
  • Formed a consortium with Humber College and other local companies to provide educational programs that were mutually beneficial.
  • Developed both short and long range strategic plans for Operations.
  • Developed and sourced the facility upgrade program which involved obtaining approval from City officials.
  • Used ‘Request For Proposal’ process and saved $450,000 annually while improving service times.
  • Developed an innovative method for order fulfillment that eliminated the need of a planned warehouse expansion and saved a $4,000,000 capital expenditure.
  • Coordinated a cost reduction program resulting in over $2,000,000 in savings.
