Configuring Outlook Express

Open the Outlook Express Program and then click on Tools at the top of your screen and then click on Accounts from the pull down menu.

Now click on Add and then on Mail as shown below:

You will be presented with the Internet Connection Wizard dialogue box.

Enter your name in the box provided as you want it to appear on the emails you send
(e.g., John Smith), and then click the Next button.

Next enter your email address in the box provided and again click the Next button.

You will now see a dialogue box similar to that shown below:

Enter your POP3 server name in the first box and your SMTP server name in the second box.

Your POP3 server will be named pop3.mydomain.com (replace mydomain.com with the name of your domain (e.g., abc.com). Your SMTP server will be named smtp.mydomain.com (replace mydomain.com with the name of your domain. When you are done, the POP3 server name should look something like pop3.abc.com and the SMTP server should look something like smtp.abc.com. In the above example, we have shown how the server names would appear for www.mcleansystems.com.

Now click the Next button. You will see a dialogue box similar to this:

Enter your full email address (including the domain name) in the first box and your password in the second box, and make sure that the Remember password box is ticked.

Then click the Next button, and finally the Finish button.

The Internet Connection Wizard is finished, but you will still need to do the following steps.

Again click on Tools at the top of your Outlook Express screen and then click on Accounts from the pull down menu. This time select the new account you just created and click on Properties. This will open up the dialogue box for the email account which you just created, and will give you the opportunity to specify some additional options. You will now see something similar to this:

There are five tabs at the top of the dialogue box, and a number of changes you can make to the properties of your email account by selecting a tab and changing a value. There are two specific changes that that you need to make before your new email account will work.

First click on the Servers tab. You will see a page similar to this:

Click on My server requires authentication and make sure that the box contains a tick. (Do not click on the box that says Log on using Secure Password Authentication).

Next click on the Advanced tab. You will now see a page similar to this:

Enter the number 587 as the Server Port Number for the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server.

Finally, click on OK and then click on Close.

Now Outlook Express will be able to retrieve and send your emails using your new account.
